Background: From the Wild Onion Brewing Company in Barrington, Illinois. This is their flagship beer, an American pale ale made with Cascade hops. 5.6% ABV.
Nose: Faint caramel aroma, some citrus and floral hops.
Taste: Thin. Insipid malt flavor buried under a big hit of resiny hops that quickly gives way to a medium-bitter finish.
Overall: The hoppiness is more in line with an IPA than a pale ale, but lack of rigid adherence to the advertised style isn’t the problem; the real downfall is the complete lack of balance. The flavour is just one-note hops, which combines with a complete absence of body to make the beer watery and unlikable.
